When hard drives crash, it is time to think about storage, backup, and cloud-computing

A few days ago I have had a problem with the hard-disk where I keep my live photos, that is, the photos I usually work on for my website.
I do have two copies of all my photos and videos, plus a copy online at Smugmug and a partial copy of everything on livedrive.com
Anyway, I did not have any mirroring in place, so I have lost the last few days trying to recover my photos from the second hard disk (the original images) and downloading the edited copies from Smugmug.com
By the way, if you have many pages on Smugmug.com, downloading all the photos can be a hassle, because Smugmug creates a .zip file for every page.
Now when I will get everything back I will organize my data in a different way; the old stuff will go to an archival hard disk and then online on livedrive.com. The live photos and videos will be mirrored, so that if one hdd fails, I will be able to recover my data immediatly.
I have also bought a quad-bay esata hard disk enclosure by Icydock, as I was running out of esata ports on my laptops.
